Scholarship Program

The Old Fire Farts of York County, PA have launched a grant program to support York County First Responders working toward a better educational opportunity to better the emergency service field they work or volunteer for in York County. The goal is to ensure better leadership, a safer work environment, and have quality trained personnel for those responding in York County.

Grants will be considered to cover costs associated with educational opportunities at institutions and seminars intended to further the skills and knowledge within their response field. Grants could also cover expenses associated with this training including; tuition, books, research, housing, lab fees and travel.

The number of Grants and their amount limits are determined by availability of funds and potential impact of the training program.

How To Apply

There is an application period from June 1st through July 6th for those applying for courses at institutions. Others can apply for seminars and special trainings throughout the year.

Potential applicants will be sent an application and are encouraged to submit it with in the 35 day time frame for review.

Upon successful review of the application, and follow up with the training institution and the emergency services officer or supervisor in charge, the applicant will be notified that their application has been forwarded to the Board for approval and fund allocation.

All applications forwarded to the Board will be reviewed by the Board of Directors of the Old Fire Farts of York County, PA and all scholarship grants will be awarded in early August.

Eligibility

Applicants must be a current first responder on record with an emergency response service in York County.

Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to collaborate and share their training within their emergency service organization but also to share any knowledge with other organizations in the community which they serve.

The Old Fire Farts of York County, PA reserves the right to request an oral presentation or site visit.

Selection criteria includes:

  • The quality of the application (complete, clearly written).
  • Clear statement of need for the course or program within your employment.
  • Appropriate, realistic budget with your finances versus your grant request.
  • Capacity to achieve measurable results.
  • Capacity to manage and complete the course or program with a passing grade.
  • Fiscal capacity to manage the grant.
  • Level of impact on the purpose of the grant.

Grants are NOT provided for:

  • Endowments or debt retirement.
  • Sectarian religious projects.
  • Organizations with discriminatory employment or program practices.
  • Association dues.
